Things Ever Wine Lover Should Know

You can find wine anywhere and everywhere you go. That being said, all of the choices can become overwhelming. If you are ready to simplify the puzzle of wine, start here.

The next time you need to clean up a wine stain, grab some Windex. It works much better than traditional soap and water does. Attack the stain as soon as you can, because if you wait too long, the stain will set in.

Allow red wines to warm up. Often, red wines are stored at temperatures near 60 degrees. The best temperature for serving red wines is above 70 degrees, which allows the full body of the wine to be present. When you open a bottle of red, allow it to sit and come to room temperature before drinking.

When you order wine while dining at a restaurant, venture out of your comfort zone. Pick a wine that no one at the table has had before. The high price won't shock them, and they will not have any preconceived notions about the wine.

In order to fully taste the wine, you have to be able to smell it. Make sure that your nose is as clear as possible prior to doing a tasting. Once you have the glass in your hand, lean your face down toward it so that your nose is partially in the glass. Make sure you smell using both the right and the left nostril.

If you have a wine cellar and you need a bottle for a party of special occasion, do not bring it upstairs until the day of the event. Wine needs to be brought up the day of the event in order to reach room temperature. But, bringing it up to soon could ruin the wine.

Take notes on any wine you try. if you are really getting into wines, you'll be tasting dozens of them over the course of the year, easily. It can be tough to keep track of what your impressions are on certain bottles, especially if they shared many similarities with only subtle differences. Making notes will help keep you on track.

A trip to a winery requires advance planning. Work out a budget that you will keep to on your visit, and plant to bring a designated driver along. Make sure you know all the questions that you plan on asking, and ensure you know your preferred types of wine.

Drink white wine during the very first year or so, while the grapes are still young. This is true for all white wines, except for Chardonnay. This is due to the fact that oak isn't usually used when making white tines. However, wines that are darker in hue do involve oak in their production process.

Go global in your wine selecting process! Previously, fine wines were considered to be exclusive to certain countries. These days, however, nearly every continent is producing a delicious wine. Limiting yourself to only France or Italy will keep you from enjoying amazing new creations from places like Australia and Brazil!

When dining out, don't be afraid to ask your server if there is a wine expert in the house! Chances are good that someone will have the perfect recommendation to complement your meal. Tell bachelorette party celebrations what you are having and give them a general price range, and you should find yourself with a great bottle to go with the meal.

If you are cooking with wine, don't hesitate to ask the wine shop-owner/manager for advice. He or she has likely tasted most of the wines available, and can give you an educated suggestion for wines that will enhance your recipe. The shop may even have wine on hand for tasting.

Talk to those who work in your wine store or at your favorite restaurant. These people can clue you in to upcoming sales and recommend something you might like based on your past purchases.

Now that you've become a bit more educated about wine, you're well on your way towards making a good wine selection the next time such an occasion should arise. You can buy it, serve it, store it or drink it in the bathtub, if you wish. You can be a fan of fine wine in little time with these tidbits.
